The world health organization Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom has announced on Wednesday that a growing number of countries in Africa constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC) under the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR). WHO and IHR Emergency Committee of independent experts confirms that mpox virus has potential to spread further across countries in Africa and possibly outside the continent.

Gavi the The global vaccine group told Reuters it has up to US$500 million to spend on getting shots to countries affected by the escalating mpox outbreak in Africa. but they said they have not seen any case till date but may see cases in Future and numbers may get higher and serious. Several outbreaks of different clades of mpox have occurred in different countries, with different modes of transmission and different levels of risk.
World Health Organization WHO had already released $1.45 million from its emergency fund to support the response to mpox in Africa, but said it needs an initial $15 million to fund that response.
