Hailstorms in Calgary can sometimes be severe, given its location on the eastern side of the Canadian Rockies, where weather patterns can be quite dynamic. (Tajinder Mukhi ) Climate Change Canada (ECCC) meteorologist and Environment Canada Heather Pimiskern says it was a supercell storm, which isn’t uncommon for Calgary.
Resident of Calgary are dealing with the aftermath of a severe thunderstorm that spoiled the city Monday night, breaking windows, denting cars also breaking windshields , and also effecting some sections of the YYC International Airport’s terminal roof to collapse. On Monday, at 7.45 P.M Emergency alert was issued warning of a storm that could produce strong wind gusts, gold ball size hail and heavy rain.
Environment Canada Heathe Pimiskern says the largest reported hail was more than five centimetres in size which means larger than a golf ball. The hail storm brought between 10 and 15 millimetres of rain. Various footage also shows that traffic disruption, traffic jam on highways severely underpass and over-bridges. So Far no maths can say about the loss in dollars but it is definitely to be cost in billions.
